THOMPSON’S POINT
The liveliest music venue in all of Maine, located on the Casco Bay waterfront, Thompson’s Point has amazing sound quality, friendly crowds and eclectic food trucks. This general admission venue is where Portland gets most of its big touring acts like Fitz and the Tantrums, Cake, Goose, Lake Street Dive, Khruangbin, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Leon Bridges and many more wonderful artists. Many of the artists who perform here comment on the relaxing breath of fresh air they get playing in Maine in the midst of their busy, jam packed summer tours. They loosen up a little and give us something different.
I’ve been to Thompson’s Point numerous times, and each time I’m taken by the warm and welcoming environment. My personal favorite concert here so far was Fitz and the Tantrums. People of all ages are either standing close to the stage in the general admission pit, or sitting with their family and friends on blankets and low chairs towards the back. Everyone pays the same and the cool breeze is free. You get a choice to either make your way to the front, or lay out a blanket and enjoy the grass in the back with waterviews. The only thing that frustrates me every time i go is waiting in line for the food trucks. Don’t get me wrong, the food trucks have some of the best food Portland has to offer, but that’s exactly the problem. You might miss a good chunk of the concert by waiting in line for a fantastic burger, falafel, shawarma, sushi, etc. Overall though, Thompson’s Point is the perfect place to take your family for a relaxed concert, or get right in the action as a solo music lover. If Lettuce is playing, you’ll find my father first row, center. Rock On, Papa!
