TO PIMP A BUTTERFLY

KENDRICK LAMAR

To Pimp A Butterfly is Kendrick Lamar’s best album, and it is often referred to as the greatest hip-hop album of all time. Kendrick masterfully puts together jazz progressions, soulful samples, and lyrics discussing systemic racism. You can tell how much effort Kendrick’s producers put into this album. Each track holds funky and groovy drum beats and unique bass lines. I’m not sure how this album shot into the mainstream. It contains some of the most confusing and complicated melodies that I’ve ever heard, and instead of rapping about money, drugs, and girls like so much other rap, Kendrick decides to create something that makes people aware of systemic racism in such a catchy way.
